Alternative for Mac
A remove.bg alternative for Mac
What remove.bg does well
remove.bg popularized one-click background removal, and the quality is still very good, including tricky edges like hair. It has a web app, a mature API and bulk editing on paid plans, so it scales to high volume and plugs into other tools. It's free to try in HD, with paid use sold as credit packs or a subscription.
One thing to know: remove.bg is being folded into Canva, and its standalone site is set to close on 1 December 2026 (checked 22 October 2026), so the independent product's future is changing.
Where Fileknife is different
remove.bg uploads your image to the cloud to process it. Fileknife removes the background on your Mac, so the photo stays on your machine, and there are no credits to buy or subscription to keep.
For a one-off cutout or a handful of product shots, an on-device, pay-once tool is simpler and more private. remove.bg's cloud models may still edge ahead on the hardest images, and it has an API Fileknife doesn't, so very high-volume or automated work is its territory.
